These Rebozos are much nicer than you could imagine.  I don't have the skill to photograph them properly, or to show you how they drape and gather around you.  The longer that you have them, use them and wash them, the softer they will be.  Rebozos are fashionable, warm, comfy, can be used to carry things or to lie on at the beach.  I have had nothing but compliments on the rebozos which I use myself, and have happy customers who have their own now.
Rebozos are easy to pack and you simply shake out to bring them back to life.  They can comfort you on a cool summer evening, or bundle you up in the winter.
If shopping in tourist areas in Mexico you most likely find machine made mimics of the old rebozos, often in synthetic fibres.  I go to the same place where locals go to buy their own - these are the most typical which I can purchase.  Rebozos #36 to #45 are in cotton, the finest and most delicate being the striped ones at the bottom.
Below the cotton are two preposterous, amazing, colourful silk ones.  They are similar to ones which I saw in a museum in Michoacan.  And for a reference to traditional clothing in Mexico, do check out these pages....  www.MexicanTextiles.com
For the rebozos below, I did try to fine-tune the colours on the preview squares.  They are much more accurate in true colour than the photos of the shawls with fringes, etc.

Rebozo 46.   You cannot imagine this rebozo.  I will have to have someone stop by to pose with it as it is a magnetic, sensational, colourful and eye-catching piece that is a thing of dreams.  Oh, I took a photo - check here for a view.   I was very excited to find this - a silk Purepecha shawl with deep extravagant fringes woven into it, from Terecuato near Zamora, Michoacán.  The shawl itself is 84 inches long and 31 inches wide.  The fringed part takes up a 14 inch long section at each end and is patterned after the plumage of birds.  Oh, I don't mind if I never sell this - I love to look at it.   $410.US.

Rebozo 47.   Here is another, larger silk rebozo from Terecuato near Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico.  The artesania museum in Patzcuaro had a few examples, though they were older of course and not so vibrant in colour.  This rebozo is 92 inches long and 30 inches wide.  The fringes take up 19 inches and are VERY heavy.  They swing very nicely.  Do check this photo.  The fringes are patterned and the colours on top of each other look rather like butterflies.  They are meant to mimic the plumage of birds and they do that very effectively.    $500.US.

Rebozo 48.   Here is an unusual intricately knotted rebozo from the State of Michoacan.  I believe that it is from the area of Zamora de Hidalgo.  This is made from a fine cotton (punta fina) on a hand loom.  These hand loomed rebozos have a more natural look to the weaving than the looms making mass produced textiles.  On hand loomed rebozos there are almost always those raised threads which you can see on the image just above the beginnings of the fringes.  These are all "one of a kind" pieces...   $280.US.

Rebozo 49.   This is a very delicate rebozo from the State of Mexico.  This has been woven on a "telar de cintura" which is a loom harnessed to the body.  The work is time consuming but a great texture occurs on the fabric.  The colours are absolutely gorgeous together, and you will never meet anyone else wearing a rebozo exactly like this.  The designs are the work of the craftsperson creating these.  The fringe is intricately tied to show plants and animals - flowers, chipmunks, birds, etc.   $180.US.

Rebozo 50.   Here is another very delicate rebozo from the State of Mexico.  This too has been woven on a "telar de cintura" a loom strapped to one's waist and tied to a tree outside, or a hook on the wall inside.  There is a huge amount of work to do in hand weaving, but worthwhile in the look of the textile.  The knotting on this rebozo is a romantic thing.  At one end it says "Mi Amor"  (my love) and at the other end it says "Soy Feliz"  (I am happy).  Above the words are images of birds - most likely ducks.  This is a wonderful statement of love.   $180.US.

Rebozo 51.   Here is an unusual intricately knotted rebozo from the State of Michoacan.  I believe that it is from the area of Zamora de Hidalgo.  This is made from what is noted as "mercerized cotton" which is medium weight and fairly heavy.  This has been woven on a hand loom.  These hand loomed rebozos have a more natural look to the weaving than the looms making mass produced textiles.  On hand loomed rebozos there are almost always those raised threads which you can see on the image just above the beginnings of the fringes.  These are all "one of a kind" pieces...    $375.US.

   Rebozo 52.   $135.US.

   Rebozo 53.   $135.US.

   Rebozo 54.   $85.US.

   Rebozo 55.   $95.US.

Rebozo 56.   This rebozo is from Tenancingo.  It is a distinct one having the three colours of the Mexican flag.  The combination of colours is terrific and the sentiment a proud one.   $145.US.

   Rebozo 57.   $155.US.
